Rigid insulation over wood framing with house wrap is being used as air infiltration and water resistant barrier. A 1″ air space between house wrap and brick veneer with flashing directs moisture to weep holes. These walls are resistant to rain penetration. Proper drainage requires maintenance of the clear air space between the brick veneer and the backing. Flashing and weep holes work with the air space to resist moisture penetration. Brick veneer with wood or metal frame backing is usually built with a minimum of 1″ of air space.
