They are designed in such a way that they do not chip the brick. Brick tongs are adjustable for various size units. See Figure 3‑28. 3.1.13 Scaffolding Few masonry projects are at a height where they can be reached from the ground. For this reason, much of a mason’s work is done on scaffolding. Scaffolding makes masons’ work easier by providing a place for materials and tools at a convenient height. Several types of scaffolding are used by masons—tu- bular, tower, and swing stage scaffolding. Figure 3‑29 shows the tubular type. Scaffolding is erected for the purpose of elevating masons to perform the specified construction work. A scaffold supports workers and masonry materials. See Figure 3‑30. Scaffolding must be constructed by those competent in the fabricating process so that a level structure is maintained (kept plumb) and so workers Safety Note Wear appropriate safety gear when working on or near scaffolding.
