It is important the lathe be covered during
grinding operations to protect it from the
resulting abrasive dust and grit, Figure 28-24.
Cover the lathe bed, cross-slide, and other parts
with canvas or heavy kraft paper.
28.7 MILLING
Many small shops are not equipped with a
milling machine. Therefore, lathe manufacturers
have devised attachments that permit milling oper-
ations to be performed on the lathe, Figure 28-25.
The milling cutters are mounted on an arbor
or fitted to the headstock spindle. The cut is
controlled by carriage and cross-slide movements.
