Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Chapter 21 DWV Pipe and Fitting Installation 323 the pipes that join with it must be aligned at the correct angle so the joints will fit correctly. In cases where it is not practical to use a 45° joint, a bend can be added on the branch to produce an angle that will make the con- nection possible, Figure 21-14. Once the changes have been made as indicated by the trial assembly, the pipe and fittings can be perma- nently joined. Do not cover the pipe until the inspec- tion is complete. 21.3.3 Installing a Bathroom Stack The procedures for installing the bathroom stack are similar to those described for the kitchen/laundry stack. The techniques described previously for the kitchen/laundry stack will not be repeated in this sec- tion. Rather, the focus will be on differences between the two installations. Before beginning work on the DWV piping for the two bathrooms, review the schematic of the piping, Figure 21-15. Work begins by putting the tubs in po- sition and temporarily placing the closet flanges in the openings that were prepared earlier. Installing tubs and shower bases is the first step. It is best to follow the manufacturer’s directions when performing this work. Doing otherwise may void any guarantee. Bathtubs and showers are installed in at least four dif- ferent ways: ■■ Recessed ■■ Sunken ■■ Corner Peninsular The recessed installation is common, Figure 21-16.
