Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit: Type LFMC — Article 350 Locations Allowed Dry Wet Direct burial (where listed and marked) Maximum Mounting Distance 12″ 4 1/2′ machinery that is portable or may vibrate dur- ing normal operation. LFMC is also permitted as a service wiring method up to 6′ in length. LFMC requires special fi ttings and connect- ing procedures to ensure watertight joints. See Figure 10-20. 10.8 Surface-Mount Raceways Surface-mount raceway is an assembly of hol- low tracks or channels and special boxes and other fi ttings that mount to the surface of a wall or ceiling. The channels come in two parts: a base, which mounts to the wall, and a cover that snaps over the base. Covers usually are rectangular or fl attened-oval in profi le and have a fi nished, somewhat decorative appearance. Channel sec- tions are 10′ long and range from 3/8″ to 3″ high and from 1/2″ to 4″ wide. Surface-mount race- way is constructed of steel, aluminum, or plastic. Surface-mount raceway is mounted on wall or ceiling surfaces only in dry locations and where it will not be subject to physical dam- age. Elbows, connectors, couplings, and boxes are designed to be electrically and mechani- cally continuous and compatible. This raceway is useful in existing homes or facilities when appearance is important and new wiring can- not be pulled through walls. Arlington Industries, Inc. Figure 10-20.
