Critical Thinking
1. You are going on a vacation to the seashore,
where you will be spending time on the
beach, in boats, and other activities that
could cause damage to your camera. What
different hazards might you encounter?
What steps could you take to protect your
equipment?
2. The exposure compensation feature found
on many digital cameras allows you to
increase or decrease exposure in the shutter
priority, aperture priority, or program AE
exposure modes. It cannot be used in the
Automatic or Manual exposure modes. Why
do you think this feature can’t be used in
those modes?
Communicating about
Photography
1. Speaking and Writing. In small groups,
discuss the appropriate use of tripods and
other camera support equipment. Talk about
the advantages and disadvantages of using
tripods in various situations. Compile a list
of various photographic situations and the
best camera support choice for each situation.
Present your conclusions to the class.
2. Speaking and Listening. In groups of three
students, choose a digital camera feature
or control, such as the histogram or built-in
flash. Explain the feature or control in a
presentation to the class using visual aids.
Take notes while other students give their
presentations. Ask questions about any
details that you would like clarified.
