Too many students who enter an A&P course are not prepared. In fact, nation-
wide, only about one-quarter of high school graduates are ready for college-level
science. Maybe you struggled with science in high school; maybe you have been
out of school for years. Regardless, enrolling in a science class that will lead to
a healthcare program will strengthen your chance of finding a good job and
improving your life. I celebrate your courage, diving into the challenging world
of science. Don’t let the challenge make you give up your dream and quit.
This book is written to guide you toward success as you step up to college-
level science. As you work through this book, you will learn how to study as you
understand and master the basics of college chemistry, biology, and A&P. This
book is written with you, the student, in mind. Chapters progress from simple
to more complicated, with each science topic building on previous knowledge.
Chapters are divided into sections, which can be completed in 20–30 minutes,
and sections are divided into concepts that teach information clearly and con-
cisely. Regular recall and reinforcement activities will help you remember what
you learn and build upon knowledge gained in previous sections. By the end of
this book, you will have a solid foundation in the science basics you need to excel
in A&P. With a solid foundation in science basics, there is no limit to where you
can go.
