Concept 8: Limbs
The limbs, or appendages, make up the appendicular region of the body and
include the arms, hands, legs, and feet. The arms are called the
upper
limbs, and
the surfaces of the upper limbs include the shoulder, upper arm, elbow (front
and back), forearm, and wrist. The hands are referred to as
manus
and include
the surfaces of your thumbs, palms, and digits (fingers). The
lower limbs
are the
legs. The surfaces of the lower limbs are the hip, thigh, knee (front and back),
calf, shin, and ankle. The feet are called
pedal
and include the surfaces of the
l
sole, heel, and digits (toes). An easy way to distinguish between manus and
pedal is that manicures are for your hands, and pedicures are for your feet.
