Saving Money
Family members need to keep a positive attitude
during a fi nancial crisis. Each person can do his or
her part to help cut expenses. This may be a good
time to institute money-saving practices that are also
environmentally friendly or green. Instead of buying
new clothes, repair or alter items. Adjust thermostats to
reduce utility bills. Turn off computers and lights when not
in use to lower electric bills. Reduce the use of electrical
appliances. Carpooling can help with auto expenses.
Teens could walk or ride their bikes whenever
possible so their parents do not have to use the car. They
could use their cooking skills instead of buying prepared
foods. A fi nancial crisis may bring families closer together.
By solving a problem together, the family may develop a
new closeness and even help the environment.
