It is interesting to note that without the small percentage of our workforce that works in production agriculture, the rest of the agricultural industry would be out of work. As a production agriculturalist, you must commit to long hours and stressful work environments. However, the rewards of knowing that you are feeding, clothing, and helping humans live better lives could make a career in production agriculture the right fit for you. Selecting a Career Selecting a career is not a simple task. Many of us have ideas of what we would like to be when we “grow up,” but we do not always have a plan on how to get there, Figure 3-26. Laying out a career path, or plan, early on will allow you to focus your high school courses on your areas of interest and put Figure 3-25.
