A photo of a red danger sign placed on a machine appears. The screen splits into halves, shifting the picture to the right. Simultaneously, the left side introduces the video’s title, “Watch It! Stay Safe,” creating a seamless visual transition.
A tractor with a large plough is seen in a vast, barren field. A man stands beside the tractor. The tractor ploughs the field from a distance, stirring dust as it works.
According to the National Safety Council, the agriculture industry is considered the most hazardous in the nation.
The interior of the moving tractor is shown. A driver steers with one hand and controls the plough with the other. A text-bar below reads, ‘Almost 8,000 young people are injured in farm accidents annually.’ A photo displaying a danger warning with instructive diagrams is shown. Another photo demonstrates directions for releasing and securing a lock. A text-bar below reads, 'Approximately 120 young people die as a result of farm accidents.’
Almost 8,000 young people are injured in farm accidents annually, and approximately 120 die as a result of a farm accident.
A man rotates a large arm of a machine on a farm. The tractor with a plough at the back reappears, moving.
Farm machinery can pose significant risks to people without the knowledge on how to Stay Safe!
The interior of a moving tractor is shown. The driver holds the joystick while driving. Another tractor with large mechanical attachments is seen moving away and its blinker is on.
So, let’s discuss some things you need to know when working around farm machinery.
A blue tractor with a Ford logo appears.
The first step is AWARENESS!
A red machine with sharp blades is attached to a tractor. A man wearing sunglasses and a cap examines the machine in the field. Another man is seen fixing something in the engine of a blue tractor.
When using farm machinery and equipment inspect machinery before use and perform regular maintenance to ensure proper working conditions.
The tractor driver fastens the seatbelt while seated. Another driver grasps the handlebars while climbing into the driver's seat.
Use safety features like seatbelts and foot or hand holds.
A yellow machine attached to a tractor appears. The blades of the machine are covered.
Keep shields and guards in place at all times.
A red tractor ploughs a field, moving at a moderate speed.
Use the appropriate speed for operating the equipment.
A driver holds the steering wheel with their left hand and uses a phone with their other hand while the tractor remains stationary.
Never use the phone for talking or texting while driving any type of vehicle!
A hand appears to be adjusting the sound system in a tractor.
And refrain from adjusting the radio or other components while driving.
A black cylindrical pipe connected to the tractor's engine rotates at a very high speed. The text bar below reads, 'PTO - Power Take-Off.’
Be especially diligent when working around a PTO—or a power take-off shaft. This equipment feature rotates at a very rapid speed and can cause serious damage in an instant. And keep the PTO guard in place at all times during operation.
A yellow-colored rotating part at the bottom of the tractor stops after a while.
Always disengage implements and moving parts prior to leaving the tractor or when others are near equipment.
A blue tractor turns from the fields onto the road. A red SUV follows the tractor.
When moving equipment onto roadways avoid high traffic times of the day and bad weather.
The tractor and the SUV are moving on the road with their blinkers turned on.
Use an escort vehicle when moving tractors and equipment.
The headlights of both vehicles are turned on. Another blue tractor with large instruments moves on the road. It displays reflector tapes on a red triangular sign.
Drive with lights on and use Slow Moving Vehicle emblems and reflector tape.
A blue tractor displaying red-colored reflector tapes and slow-moving emblems appears. A person is using a wrench to tighten the red reflective board on the back of the tractor.
These usually come installed on the tractors and equipment but may need to be replaced with wear and time.
The tractor moves off the side of a narrow road to allow a gray car to pass. After the car passes, the tractor returns to the road.
Pull off onto the side of the road to allow other vehicles to pass when possible and safe to do so.
A red car comes close to the tractor and passes by from the left.
Watch out for passing vehicles—they may not be as safe as you are!
The long plough attached to a tractor fold from both sides.
The left indicator of the tractor blinks before it made a left turn on the road.
Minimize the equipment hauling width when possible—fold up plows, planters, and other equipment before entering the roadway.
A montage of tractor farming equipment being used appears.
Always use turn signals in plenty of time to notify other drivers of your intent. If turn signals are not available, be sure you know how to use hand and arm signals. In any task, your safety and the safety of others should be the primary concern. Avoid injuries! Stay Safe!
