To do so, open the Settings window, click Apps, and click Default apps from the menu on the left. Scroll down to click Choose default apps file type. Do not manually change a fi le name extension unless there is a very good reason to do so. Changing the extension removes the fi le association. Additionally, some software will not recognize or open a fi le using File Open unless the fi le has the proper extension. Naming a Group of Related Files A project may contain several related fi les. Using a similar word pattern in the fi le names of these fi les reminds the user that the fi les are all related.
