Windows uses the concept of a recycle bin as an undelete function for deleted fi les and folders. The recycle bin is a special folder used as a collection point for all fi les and folders that have been deleted. It can hold a certain volume of deleted material, and the maximum size can be changed. As long as a deleted fi le or folder is stored in the recycle bin, it can be restored or undeleted. To restore a fi le or folder, display the content of the recycle bin. This can be done by double-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop. With the content of the recycle bin displayed, right-click on the fi le or folder to restore, and click Restore in the shortcut menu. In Windows 10, you can also select the fi le or folder, and click the Manage Restore Restore the selected items. Once restored, the item is removed from the recycle bin and placed in the location from where it was deleted. The recycle bin is a folder, and its content takes up storage space. To free this storage space, the recycle bin can be emptied. However, doing so permanently removes the deleted fi les and folders, and they cannot be restored. To empty the recycle bin, display its contents. Then, in Windows 10, click Recycle Bin Tools Manage Empty Recycle Bin. A message appears asking to confi rm removing the items from the recycle bin. Click the Yes button to remove the items or the No button to cancel the operation. Section Review Section Review 4.3 4.3 Check Your Understanding 1.
