Copyright  Goodheart-Willcox  Co.,  Inc.  Chapter  4  File  Management  145  Displaying  File  Name  Extensions  File  name  extensions  are  hidden  by  default.  However,  many  users  prefer  to  have  fi  le  name  extensions  visible.  This  is  a  simple  setting  in  Windows.  1.  Launch  Windows  File  Explorer.  2.  Applying  what  you  have  learned,  navigate  to  the  C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows  folder.  3.  In  Windows  10  and  Windows  8,  click  the  View  tab,  and  click  the  Options  button  (not  the  drop-  down  arrow  below  it).  In  Windows  7,  click  the  Organize  button  on  the  toolbar,  and  click  Folder  and  search  Options  in  the  drop-down  menu  that  is  displayed.  The  Folder  Options  dialog  box  is  displayed.  4.  Click  the  View  tab  in  the  dialog  box.  Notice  all  of  the  settings  for  how  fi  les  are  displayed.  5.  Scroll  down  in  the  Advanced  Settings  list,  and  uncheck  the  Hide  extensions  for  known  file  types  check  box,  as  shown.  Hands-On  Example  4.1.2  Uncheck  6.  Click  the  Apply  to  Folders  button  at  the  top  of  the  tab  so  fi  le  name  extensions  will  be  displayed  in  all  folders.  7.  Click  the  OK  button  to  apply  the  change  and  close  the  dialog  box.  Notice  the  fi  le  name  extension  is  displayed  for  the  fi  le  in  the  folder.  In  this  case,  the  fi  le  in  the  folder  is  in  the  JPG  format,  which  is  a  graphics  fi  le.  8.  Double-click  on  the  fi  le  to  open  it  in  the  program  associated  with  the  .jpg  fi  le  extension.
