Chapter 4 File Management 167 File Association By default, in Windows the JPG fi le type is associated with an image viewer, such as Photos or Windows Photo Viewer. However, it may be more effi cient to have the image fi le opened in an editor, such as Microsoft Paint. 1. Launch Windows File Explorer. 2. Applying what you have learned, search the Windows folder for any fi le with the .jpg fi le extension. 3. Right-click on any image fi le, and click Properties in the shortcut menu. 4. Click the General tab in the dialog box. 5. Look at the program listed in the Opens with: area. The default program is Windows Photo Viewer. 6. Click the Change… button. In Windows 10 and Windows 8, click the More apps or More Options link in the dialog box, and then the Look for another app on this PC link. The Open with dialog box is displayed, as shown. Hands-On Example 4.4.1 Navigate to this folder Select 7. Navigate to the Windows\System32 folder, and select the mspaint.exe fi le. Click the Open button. The association for the JPG fi le type is changed to Microsoft Paint. The Properties dialog box is updated to refl ect this. 8. Click the OK button to close the Properties dialog box. 9. Double-click on any JPG fi le in Windows File Explorer. Microsoft Paint is launched, and the image fi le is loaded into Paint. to restore the user’s work from previous saved versions.
