Rerouting Ductwork
Sometimes, a pipe or other obstruction is installed in the space where a
section of duct should go. In other cases, construction elements are present
that were not shown in the project drawings. If a duct run needs to be
redirected, alert the general contractor who will ultimately decide whether the
obstacle will be removed or the duct will be rerouted around it.
If ductwork needs to be rerouted, additional compensation to the
HVACR contractor is often required, because additional materials, fi ttings,
and labor will be needed. Any and all changes to the original plan must be
documented, agreed upon, and signed off on to prevent problems later in the
project.
Contrary to the vertical offset fi ttings, horizontal offset fi ttings are
not readily identifi able in elevation views. They are more evident in the
plan view, Figure 5-34.
