Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. 122 Programmable Logic Controllers: Hardware and Programming Activity 2 Figure 6A-4 displays a relay logic diagram. In this activity, you will explain the circuit’s operation, create the ladder logic diagram, and then test it. PB1 PB2 LS1 Red_PLT Motor #1 M1 L1 L2 R Goodheart-Willcox Publisher Figure 6A-4. Relay Logic Diagram Step 1 Examine Figure 6A-4 carefully. Describe the operation of the control system that is displayed. Step 2 Assign the input/output ports as indicated in the following: Pushbutton one (PB1) to input port address I:0/1. Pushbutton two (PB2) to input port address I:0/2. Limit switch one (LS1) to input port address I:0/4. Motor one (M1) to output port address O:0/0. Red pilot light (Red_PLT) to output port address O:0/4. Step 3 Draw the connections for the input/output devices and their port address assignments listed in Step 2. Then, complete the PLC input/output connections on your PLC lab station. Step 4 Draw the PLC ladder logic diagram for the relay logic diagram displayed in Figure 6A-4. Step 5 Use Rockwell RSLogix 500 software to create the PLC ladder logic diagram. Step 6 Download the PLC ladder logic diagram into the PLC station. Place the PLC in the run/monitor mode. Step 7 Demonstrate your working PLC system for your instructor.
