iv Creating Screen Captures Many of the laboratory activities require you to create and save screen captures or screenshots. There are several ways to create screenshots. A simple way is to use the [Print Screen] key and then paste into Paint or another image- editing program. From there, the screenshot can be saved to a file. There are also dedicated capture programs, such as Greenshot, Jing, and many others. In your working folder for this class, create a subfolder for the laboratory manual. Within this folder, you may wish to further create subfolders by chapter to help keep everything organized. Where an activity indicates a screenshot is needed, create the capture, and save it to this folder. Use a naming convention that clearly identifies each file by activ- ity number and step. For example, Lab11-3-2 is one way to identify a screenshot for step 2 of Lab 11-3. Once you decide on a naming convention, use it throughout for all activities. Your instructor may specify a naming convention to use for this course. General Safety Procedures • When using a virtual machine, take a snapshot of the system before beginning the lab. This will allow you to revert to default settings if you experience difficulties or wish to perform the lab again. • Do not attempt to make changes or modifications on machines you do not own or have permission to modify. • Do not install unauthorized software on computers. Abide by all software-licensing agreements. • Do not attempt or access systems beyond those listed in this lab manual. Doing so may violate school policies or local or federal laws. • Ensure your work does not needlessly interfere with the work of other students.
