Factors Affecting Job Outlook
Job outlook is an important factor in choosing
a career. You may not be able to find a job if you
plan a career in a field with few jobs and many
workers.
The
Occupational Outlook Handbook,
O*NET,
and CareerOneStop provide information about
industries that are growing. You can also learn what
skills and knowledge are required for these jobs.
High growth industries are those expected to
provide many new jobs. Most of these incorporate
new technologies and innovative ideas. As a
technology spreads to various industries, new jobs
are continually created. That usually means jobs
using the old technology disappear.
Career opportunities are also affected by
changes in society and the world. For instance,
as the older population increases, more social
and health services are needed, 19-7. Choosing
a career in an expanding field will increase
the likelihood of finding a job when you have
finished your training.
