Section 2-3 Communication in Relationships 49
•
Say what must be said and stop. Do not continue talking about one
issue and repeating yourself.

Try to end on a positive note. Make a positive comment about the
person or the situation.
Communication in the Workplace
The communication skills you have learned to use in your personal
life can help you communicate at work. The circumstances differ,
however. You have known your family and close friends for a long time,
and you have learned how to communicate with them. When you begin
a job, you will meet many new people. In today’s world, the workforce
is likely to be very diverse (differing from one another). Workers differ
by age, ethnicity, and gender. Increasing numbers of workers have
disabilities. Due to the diverse nature of the workforce, communication
can be more challenging. See 2-8.

function well.
