Each career cluster is broken further into career pathways. These
career subgroups often require additional or more specialized
knowledge and skills. If one or two jobs in a career cluster appeal to you,
it is likely that others will, too.
Programs of Study
A program of study is a menu that lists a sequence of courses and
activities that prepare students for occupations within a certain career
pathway. Customizing a program of study results in a personal plan of
study. The plan shows the career direction you have decided and the
courses and activities chosen to address your career-preparation needs.
It eliminates the frustration of not knowing what you need to do next.
Postsecondary options such as degree programs and on-the-job
training are included in the plan. It also shows the employment options
available with further study and the professional associations to contact
for more career information. Be sure to update your plan at least yearly,
but more often if your goals change.
Career Information Sources
One of the best ways to fi nd employment as well as general career
information is to search government websites, 1-6. You can search for
open positions in your area or across the country. Many of the websites
also provide tips for job hunting.
