Unit 1 Google Mail
Organizational Tools
The average person receives around 100 e-mail messages each day.
With this volume of e-mail coming in, it helps to have an organized inbox.
Google provides several tools to aid users in keeping their e-mail organized.
Gmail organizational tools include deleting and archiving messages. Stars
and importance markers are other organizational tools. Stars can be used to
differentiate messages that require follow up, for example. The creation of
custom labels provides users with a method of grouping similar messages.
The fi lters feature automates the application of organizational tools based on
user-defi ned criteria.
Deleting and Archiving Gmail Messages
Often the two fi rst steps in organizing messages are removing items
that will not be needed at all and storing items that will not be needed
on a regular basis. In the Gmail inbox, these two actions are referred
to as deleting and archiving. Deleting a message will remove it from
the
Inbox
label and move it to the
Trash
label, as shown in Figure 2-1.
Deleted messages remain in the
Trash
label for 30 days before they are
permanently deleted. Archiving allows Gmail users to move messages
