Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. 262 Communicating about Welding 1. Writing. Imagine that you have been asked to teach the difference between forehand welding and backhand welding, and when each technique is used, to students who are interested in welding but have no prior knowledge. How would you explain the differences to the class? What phrases would you use? Write up your lesson. 2. Speaking. Working with a partner, study a sheet of thin-gauge aluminum. Note the properties that the aluminum has. Try different experiments to really learn about the properties of aluminum. Discuss with your partner what problems these properties could cause in relation to welding. Revisit the information in this chapter and share your thoughts about the challenges of welding aluminum. Discuss with your partner and another group of two students to compare your fi ndings with the other group’s fi ndings.
