Install the cable into the guides. Install the cable end
into the equalizer and readjust the cable as necessary. Be
sure to recheck service brake adjustment after applying the
parking brake.
Disc Brake
Disconnect the cable at the lever and the sheath at the
lever bracket, Figure 19-18. Remove any return springs,
being careful not to interchange the springs between right
and left. Install the new cable and guides. Replace the
return springs. Install the cable end into the equalizer and
adjust the cable as necessary. In some cases, a plastic tie
strap or clip may be used to help retain the cable to the
lever bracket. Make sure the clip or a replacement strap is
in place before installing the wheel on the vehicle.
Levers
Common levers used in parking brake linkage are the
equalizer and multiplier. Replacement procedures are similar.
Equalizer
The equalizer is held in place by its cable connec-
tions and is usually not mounted to the vehicle body. See
Figure 19-19. To remove the equalizer, raise and support
the vehicle. Then loosen the cable adjuster and remove
