AutoCAD and Its Applications—Basics
Use
AutoCAD Drawing Template (*.dwt)
to save a template file. To share a file fi with fi
someone using an older version of AutoCAD, choose the appropriate older AutoCAD
version from the list. You also have the option of saving a drawing exchange file (DXF) fi
or drawing standards file (DWS). fi
Next, select the folder in which to store the file from the fi
Save in:
drop-down list. To
move upward from the current folder, pick the
Up one level
button. To create a new folder
in the current location, pick the

button and type a new folder name.

The name

appears in the
File name:
text box if the file is the first fi file fi since fi
you launched AutoCAD. Change the name to the desired fi le name. After you specify fi
the correct location and fi le name, pick the fi
Save
button to save the file. You can also fi
press
[Enter]
to activate the
Save
button.
If you saved the fi le previously, the fi
QSAVE
command updates, or resaves, the file fi
based on the current fi le state. In this situation, fi
QSAVE
issues no prompts and displays
no dialog box.
SAVEAS Command
Use the
SAVEAS
command to save a copy of a fi le using a different name or file fi fi
type. You can also use the
SAVEAS
command when you open a drawing template file fi
to use as a basis for another drawing. This leaves the template unchanged and ready
to use for starting other drawings.
The
SAVEAS
command always displays the
Save Drawing As
dialog box. The location
and name of an existing file appear. Confirm fi that the fi
Files of type:
drop-down list displays
the desired fi le type and that the fi

Options
dialog box control automatic saves. See Figure 2-5. Automatic
save is on by default and saves every 10 minutes. Type the number of minutes between
saves in the
Minutes between saves
text box. By default, AutoCAD names automatically
saved fi les fi FileName_n_n_nnnn.sv$ in the C:\Users\user\appdata\local\temp r folder.

The
