CHAPTER
Modifying Objects
11 11
Learning Objectives
After completing this chapter, you will be able to:
Use the
FILLET
command to draw fi llets, rounds, and other radii.
Place chamfers and angled corners with the
CHAMFER
command.
Form a spline using the
BLEND
command.
Separate objects using the
BREAK
command and combine objects using the
JOIN
command.
Use the
TRIM
and
EXTEND
commands to edit objects.
Change objects using the
STRETCH
and
LENGTHEN
commands.
Edit the size of objects using the
SCALE
command.
Use the
EXPLODE
command.
AutoCAD includes many editing commands and options to complete common
drafting tasks, improve effi ciency, and modify a drawing. This chapter explains
methods of using basic editing commands to change existing objects by changing or
adding geometry. The editing method used in this chapter is to access a command
such as
STRETCH
and then follow the prompts to complete the operation. Another
technique, presented in Chapter 13, is to select objects fi rst using the crosshairs, then
access the editing command, and fi nally complete the operation.
Using the FILLET Command U s ing the FILLET Comm a nd
Design and drafting terminology refers to a rounded interior corner as a fi llet and
a rounded exterior corner as a round. AutoCAD refers to all rounded corners as fi llets.
The
FILLET
command draws a rounded corner between intersecting or noninter-
secting lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, polylines, splines, xlines, and rays. See Figure 11-1.
Setting the Fillet Radius
Access the
FILLET
command and then use the
Radius
option to specify the fi llet
radius. The radius determines the size of a fi llet and must be set before you select
objects. AutoCAD stores the radius as the new default, allowing you to place addi-
tional fi llets of the same size. Once you defi ne the radius, select the fi rst object and then
hover the pick box over the second object to preview the operation. The
Radius
option,
fillet: A rounded
interior corner used
to relieve stress or
ease the contour of
inside corners.
round: A rounded
exterior corner used
to remove sharp
edges or ease the
contour of exterior
corners.
