Chapter 5 Using Model Space Viewports 121 Command: CVPORT↵ Enter new value for CVPORT current: 3↵ The current value given is the ID number of the active viewport. The ID number is automatically assigned by AutoCAD, starting with 2. To change viewports with the CVPORT system variable, simply enter a different ID number. This technique may be used in custom programming for AutoCAD. Using the CVPORT system variable is also a good way to determine the ID number of a viewport. The number 1 is not a valid viewport ID number. PROFESSIONAL TIP PROFESSIONAL TIP Each viewport can have its own view, viewpoint, UCS, zoom scale, limits, grid spacing, and snap setting. Specify the drawing aids in all viewports before saving the confi gu- ration. When a viewport is restored, all settings are restored as well. Managing Defi ned Viewports If you are working with several different viewport confi gurations, it is easy to restore, rename, or delete existing viewports. You can do so using the Viewports dialog box. To access a list of named viewports, open the dialog box and select the Named Viewports tab. See Figure 5-8. To display a viewport confi guration, select its name from the Named viewports: list. The selected confi guration is displayed in the Preview area. If this is the arrangement you want, pick the OK button. Assume you have saved the current viewport confi guration. Now, you want to work in a specifi c viewport, but do not need other viewports displayed on screen. First, pick the viewport you wish to work in to make it active. Next, select Viewport Configuration List in the Viewport Controls fl yout in the viewport controls and select Single. You can also use the Viewport Configuration drop-down list in the Model Viewports panel on the Visualize tab of the ribbon. The active viewport is displayed as the only viewport. To restore the original viewport confi guration, select Viewport Configuration List in the Viewport Controls fl yout in the viewport controls, and then VPORTS Ribbon Visualize Model Viewports Named Viewports… Type VPORTS Select a named configuration Preview of selected configuration Figure 5-8.
