When live sectioning is turned on, the material behind the viewing direction of the section plane is removed. The cross section of the 3D object is shown in gray (by default) and the internal shape of the 3D object is visible. A wide variety of options allow you to change the appearance of not only the live sectioning display, but also of 2D and 3D section blocks that can be created from the sectioned display. These settings are found in the Section Settings dialog box. See Figure 14-40. To open this dialog box, select the section object and pick the dialog box launcher button in the lower-right corner of the Display panel in the Section Plane contextual ribbon tab. You can also pick the dialog box launcher button in the lower- right corner of the Section panel in the Home or Solid tab of the ribbon. To change the settings for live sectioning, pick the Live Section settings radio button at the top of the Section Settings dialog box. The categories displayed in the dialog box contain properties related to live sectioning. Settings for 2D and 3D sections and elevations are discussed later in this chapter. The three categories for live sectioning are Intersection Boundary, Intersection Fill, and Cut-away Geometry. To display a brief description of any property, hover the cursor over the property in the Section Settings dialog box. The description is displayed in a tooltip. A check box at the bottom of the Section Settings dialog box allows you to apply the properties to all section objects or to just the selected section object.
