Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Chapter 15 Point Clouds 401 NOTE NOTE Autodesk ReCap Photo, a companion application to Autodesk ReCap Pro, is designed for photo-based projects. Autodesk ReCap Photo is used to process digital photos taken with a camera or aerial photos taken by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly referred to as a drone. Autodesk ReCap Photo can be used to convert data to an RCS fi le or a reality capture mesh (RCM) fi le. Using Autodesk ReCap Pro Autodesk ReCap Pro provides an interface for working with scan fi les and point cloud data. When you open Autodesk ReCap Pro, the home screen appears, Figure 15-1. The initial tools that are available allow you to start a new project, open an existing project, set system preferences, and access the help system. Any recent projects appear as thumbnails along the bottom of the home screen. To start a new scan project, select New project at the top of the home screen and then select Import point cloud. You are prompted to enter a name for the project and assign a folder location for fi les associated with the project. Enter the new project name and select the folder where the fi les will be saved. Then, select Proceed. The Import files screen is displayed and prompts you to select the scan fi les to import. You can select individual fi les, select a folder containing fi les, or drag the fi les to the screen. If you choose to select individual fi les or a folder containing fi les, use the Import Point Clouds dialog box to select the fi les. You can select from a variety of fi le formats. Select one or more fi les and pick the Open button. The Scan settings screen appears, allowing you to adjust the scan settings used for the point cloud. The scan settings are discussed next. Scan Settings The point cloud scan settings allow you to control the fi ltering and size of the point cloud, the resolution, and the coordinate system. Filtering and clipping options are avail- able when the Scan settings screen initially appears and the Filtering button is selected.
