520 AutoCAD and Its Applications—Advanced Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. Final Gathering The global illumination process produces a photon map that may have dark and light areas. In other words, it may be splotchy. Final gathering increases the number of rays in the rendering and cleans up these artifacts. It will also greatly increase rendering time. If you render a scene with one of the higher render presets and watch it all the way through, you may actually see this phase. Final gathering works best with scenes that contain overall diffuse lighting. See Figure 19-7. Exercise 19-2 www.g-wlearning.com/CAD/ Complete the exercise on the companion website. Render Environment and Render Environment and Exposure Exposure The render environment settings allow for the addition of lighting and a back- ground image based on a predefi ned environment. The RENDEREXPOSURE or RENDERENVIRONMENT command displays the Render Environment & Exposure palette. See Figure 19-8. In this palette, you can quickly set up a scene for rendering RENDEREXPOSURE Ribbon Visualize Render Render Render Environment and Exposure Type RENDER- EXPOSURE RENDER- ENVIRONMENT Figure 19-7. A—This scene has a single point light. B—Global illumination is active. Notice the unevenness of the lighting. This can be seen especially on the sofa and in the corner of the walls. C—Final gathering cleans up artifacts and provides a more even illumination. A C B A full-color image is provided on the companion website. www.g-wlearning.com/CAD/
