Chapter 19 Advanced Rendering 521 Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. without having to create and position lights or adjust sunlight settings. You can also adjust the exposure settings for lighting in the scene. The Render Environment & Exposure palette is divided into two areas: Environment and Exposure. The settings in these areas are discussed in the following sections. Environment Settings To use the render environment settings, the switch at the top of the Render Environment & Exposure palette must be set to On. When the switch is set to Off, AutoCAD uses one of the other types of lighting for the scene (default lighting, sunlight, or user-created lighting, as discussed in Chapter 18). The settings in the Environment area are used to apply image based lighting and a background image to the scene. Image based lighting simulates a 360° environment around the scene. The lighting used to illuminate the scene is an image lighting map associated with a specifi c environment, such as an outdoor scene or an interior setting. The environment can be rotated to reposition the light source and change how the scene is illuminated. This provides a way to quickly adjust the lighting to enhance the scene and achieve different results. The Image Based Lighting: drop-down list contains 11 different environments from which to choose. The Gypsum Crater, Dry Lake Bed, Plaza, Snow Field, and Village environments provide a panoramic background image that is applied to the scene when rendered. These environments are designed for exterior scenes and are described below. See Figure 19-9. • Gypsum Crater. In this environment, the ground is covered in grayish rock. There are hills covered with green foliage in the background and a blue sky appears beyond. The lighting is similar to bright sunshine. • Dry Lake Bed. This is a fl at sandy desert environment with bluffs and moun- tains in the background. The sky is pale blue and the lighting is bright and harsh. • Plaza. This environment sets the scene in the center of a cobblestone plaza in the late afternoon. Buildings with European architecture surround the plaza. The lighting has a hazy quality to it. • Snow Field. This environment sets the scene in the middle of a fl at snow-covered plane. A road below has been plowed and the sky is mostly overcast with gray wispy clouds in the background. Lighting is even and diffuse.
