Chapter 19 Advanced Rendering 523 Copyright Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc. • Village. The name of this environment may be misleading. The scene appears to be at the end of a concrete spillway in bright sunshine. The structures in the background may create an interesting scene. The Sharp Highlights, Rim Highlights, Grid Lights, Cool Light, Warm Light, and Soft Light environments simulate an indoor setting and have a background that resembles the inside of a room. These environments provide different lighting choices and are very useful for creating presentations of consumer products, mechanical parts, or vehicles. They are described as follows. • Sharp Highlights. This environment provides a dark and light background with a strong low light from one direction. See Figure 19-10. • Rim Highlights. This environment provides a gray indistinct background with diffuse overhead lighting. • Grid Lights. In this environment, the scene is positioned inside a room with uniform grid lighting from above. • Cool Light. This environment is similar to the Grid Lights environment with light panels providing highlights on objects in the scene. • Warm Light. This environment is the same as the Cool Light environment, but the light is more like incandescent lighting. • Soft Light. This environment is similar to the Grid Lights environment, but the lighting is dim and diffuse. Very few highlights are produced on objects in the scene. NOTE NOTE The projection must be set to perspective when using one of the image based lighting environments. The Rotation: setting below the Image Based Lighting: drop-down list is used to rotate the environment around your scene. The light source rotates with the back- ground, allowing you to position it to your liking. Use the slider to change the rotation or enter a value in the text box. Figure 19-10. A preliminary battery pack design rendered using the Sharp Highlights image based lighting environment. A full-color image is provided on the companion website. www.g-wlearning.com/CAD/
