For human services careers requiring either a master’s or doctorate degree to advance, related graduate degrees may be found in marriage and family therapy, psychology, school counseling, social work, or education, among others (Figure 1.9). In addition to a degree, some human services careers also require state licensure, certifications, or professional registration. Sometimes these additional requirements are earned through hours in practice, a qualifying exam, or a combination of both. In the end, the fact remains that even some postsecondary education can add thousands of dollars to personal income over a lifetime. Reading Recall 1. What does postsecondary mean? 2.
