the importance of a 30-second elevator speech. Students have an opportunity to
self-evaluate and start the creation of their personal brand, which will help form the
reputation they build in the workplace. They also have an opportunity to write a
personal brand statement that can be used on employment documents.

Chapter 4 Your Online Presence
is a combination of Chapter 1 in the previous
text with additional new material. Instagram was added to expand coverage of
social media accounts that can be used for online presence.

Chapter 5 Networking for Your Career
was formerly Chapter 3. This material

has minor updates and revisions.

Chapter 6 Protecting Your Identity
was Chapter 2 in the previous edition. It was

moved to more accurately reflect the progression of events that happens in this unit.
New, updated content is included that discusses public Wi-Fi hotspots, ransomware,
session hijacking, and securing a computer or mobile device.

was formerly Chapter 6. Minor updates were made to reflect
current practices for résumé creation.

was formerly Chapter 7. Minor updates were made to
reflect current practices for cover letter creation.

was formerly Chapter 8. Updates were made to
include the creation of a job-tracking spreadsheet to be used when applying for jobs.

was Chapter 9 in the previous edition.

expectations, as well as learning to work with multigenerational coworkers, is much-
needed preparation for those who will be entering the workforce.

New Social Media Slipup
feature illustrates realistic examples of job applicants
who failed to properly use social media. Impulsive postings and other negative
online behavior robbed them of career opportunities. These cases exemplify the
repercussions of acting before thinking when posting on social media.

Totally revised Career Portfolio features
have been expanded to cover specific details
important to the creation of a career portfolio. This information will guide students as
they build a polished portfolio that they can use when applying for positions.

Enhanced end-of-chapter
activities challenge students to self-reflect on topics

introduced in the chapter. Retrospection helps to focus on what qualities or skills an
individual needs to develop to prepare for a career.

Revised checklists
throughout the chapters serve as job-search management
tools to help organize and prioritize important tasks. Creation of a job-tracking

activities have been renamed Workplace Connection.
These are improved and moved from placement in the content to the end of the
