How have these skills helped him or her advance in the workplace? 3. Transferable skills are skills that you have acquired in school or working in another career field. Consider the skills you have gained throughout your life. Describe how the skills you learned in one situation, such as in school or at a part-time job, can transfer to your chosen career field. 4. Basic skills are necessary to perform nearly any job. Basic skills include reading, writing, speaking, listening, mathematics, and technology skills. Write two to three sentences describing how each of these skills is important in your chosen career field. 5. People skills enable a person to work with others successfully. Select one or two people skills from the bulleted list provided in this chapter that you feel you need to improve.
