Chapter 1
Chapter Summary

Your personality development is dependent on two factors: your
heredity and your environment.

Growth may be measured in six ways: chronologically, physically,
intellectually, emotionally, socially, and philosophically.

One of the tasks of adolescence is to become a responsible and
independent adult. As you take on more responsibilities, you may
be given more independence.

As a citizen, you have both rights and responsibilities. You can
begin fulfi lling your rights and responsibilities as a teen.

Your personal expectations include that which you hope to
accomplish. Some expectations are measurable and some are not.
These expectations may become your goals.

Your future will depend on your ability to take responsibility for
your life.
