How many calories would you
use in 30 minutes of walking?
dancing? playing basketball? Use
the software of your choice to
create a table of your findings.

Writing
19. Keeping a food diary is a good
way to learn more about your
eating habits. In your journal,
write every item you eat and
drink for 10 days, including the
amounts and time of day. You
will start to see a pattern to your
eating habits. Some patterns
may be healthy, but others may
not. Your food diary will help
you determine any eating habits
you would like to change.

20. Science. The B vitamins and
vitamin C are water-soluble
vitamins the body needs regularly.
Research the foods that give your
body essential B vitamins and
vitamin C. Is it better to get these
vitamins from foods or from
taking vitamin pills? Why? Discuss
your findings with the class.
21. Writing. Write a short essay
about a family food tradition
that has been passed down from
one generation to another. Share
your story with the class and
your family.
22. Science. What are the functions
of protein in your body? Why
are foods containing protein
important for teens to have daily?
23. Math. Check a calorie guide
for the number of calories in
an apple, banana, orange, and
a glass of fat-free milk. What
nutrients do these foods provide?
Then look up the calories in
two chocolate chip cookies, one
cola drink, one cup of buttered
popcorn, one bagel, and one
small bag of potato chips. What
nutrients do they provide? Why
are fresh fruits and fat-free milk
healthful choices for snacks?

24. Regular physical activity is a
large part of living a healthful
lifestyle. To stick with a physical
activity routine, it is best to find
those activities you really enjoy.
Do you like to play a team sport,
or are you happier in fitness or
yoga classes? Would you rather
be running or lifting weights?
How much time can you spend
each week on a physical activity?
These are just a few of the many
questions you can answer to
help you find the best fitness
program for you. After making
your own physical activity
program, develop an FCCLA A
Better You project for the Power
of One program. Obtain further
information about this program
from your FCCLA advisor.
