to become the best person he or she can
be. This goal may be achieved through
choosing a certain job or way of life.
People in their thirties and forties try
to fi t the goals they had as young adults
into their current goals. As young adults,
these people may have chosen careers and
started families. Now, focus may change
to advancing careers and raising children.
Striving to reach these goals adds purpose
and meaning to their lives.
People in their fi fties and sixties
continue working toward their goals.
They also begin to think about retirement.
Preparing for the later years in life is an
important task. Adults need to feel useful
and stay active. They need to develop
interests to pursue after they retire.
People today live longer than ever
before. Many people in their seventies,
eighties, and nineties enjoy good health
and remain physically active. Some keep
learning new hobbies and developing
relationships with family and friends
during these later years.
