Before merchandise is actually selected,
an ideal chart is prepared that names all
merchandise categories to be presented and the
number of garments to be selected per category.
This is higher than will actually be shown, since
some will be eliminated during fi ttings and
rehearsals. The ideal chart also lists important
trends of each apparel category, including
accessories.
Merchandise selection is coordinated with
the fashion preferences of the audience and the
ideal chart information. A merchandise pull is
the removing of show items from the retail sales
fl oor to a fashion show storage area, 23-13. This
may be done a few days to a week before the
show date or when new merchandise is available.
It should take place close enough to the show to
include the latest items available, but far enough
ahead to avoid a last-minute time crunch. Since
merchandise pulled for the show is no longer on
the retail selling fl oor, the possibility of some lost
sales must be considered.
When borrowing merchandise from retailers,
a professional working relationship should
be maintained and precise details about the
show should be provided. Show personnel are
accountable for all items, including any that are
lost or damaged. A merchandise loan record
