Trade Publications
Trade publications are magazines, newspapers, and books that deal specifi-fi
cally with a certain industry or segment of an industry. They keep companies
and employees informed about the latest technology and news of their trade.
Several trade publications of the past have merged into one strong voice about
their segment of the industry. Others now disseminate industry news and
information to their distribution list, and anyone else interested, over the
Internet rather than printing and mailing. Some of the main trade publica-
tions of the soft goods chain are listed in Figure 4.13.
Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) is a newspaper that reports fashion trends,
design and manufacturing information, fashion events, and business and
financial news of the apparel trade. It is not pinpointed in Figure 4.13 because
it is important to the entire pipeline. It mainly covers women’s fashion, but
also features textile and menswear news.
