Flexion—bend the arm so the same- side shoulder is touched, if possible (Figure 13.53A). Extension—straighten the arm (Figure 13.53B). 7. Exercising the shoulder Grasp and support the patient’s wrist with one hand and the elbow with your other hand. Flexion—raise the arm straight out in front of the patient and over the head (Figure 13.50A). Extension—bring the arm down to the side (Figure 13.50B).
