Pronation—turn the hand so the palm is facing down. Supination—turn the hand so the palm is facing up (Figure 13.54) Radial fl exion—with the hand straight up, turn the hand toward the thumb approximately 20°, as if the patient is waving. Ulnar fl exion—with the hand straight up, turn the hand toward the little fi nger approximately 30°. 11. Exercising the thumb Hold the patient’s hand with one hand and grasp the patient’s thumb with your other hand. Abduction—move the thumb out, away from the index fi nger (Figure 13.56A).
