126 Introduction to Microsoft Offi fice
Inserting Media Files
It is possible to insert various media fi les, such as images, into fi
documents using office suite software and then manipulate them. In fi
Microsoft Offi the ribbon interface includes on-demand tabs. For example, fice,
when an image is selected, the
Format
on-demand tab is available in the
ribbon. This tab contains commands related to working with images, such
as changing the border, wrapping text around the image, adding shadow
effects, aligning the image on the page, and changing the size of the image.
Inserting a Media File
Adding a media file to a document is called fi inserting or attaching.
Depending on which Microsoft Offi application is being used, images, fice
videos, and sounds can be inserted. For example, to insert an image
into Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Excel, click the
Insert Illustrations Pictures
in the ribbon. A standard open dialog box is
displayed. Navigate to the location where the image file is saved, select fi
the fi le, and click the fi
Insert
button. The image is added to the document
at the current insertion point.
Image Location and Size
When an image is selected, small squares or dots, called handles,
are displayed in the middle of each edge and at the corners, as shown in
Figure 4-14. Handles are used to change the size of the image. The corner
handles are used to resize the image proportionally. This means the ratio
of height to width remains the same. The handles on the top, bottom, and
sides are used to resize the image nonproportionally. The ratio of height
to width will change when these handles are used.
