Chapter 4 Common Offi Application Features fice 127
The location of an image can be adjusted by dragging the frame.
Click on the outer edge of the selected image, not on a handle, and drag
the image to a new location. Note: depending on how the image was
inserted, its position may be locked.
After an image has been placed and sized accordingly, it may need
to be reordered. Consider a document or fi le in which multiple images fi
are stacked on top of one another with some overlap. There is an order
associated with that set of images. If images need to be reordered,
it can be done by selecting the image and clicking
Format Drawing
Tools
Arrange. There are two main ordering options:
Bring
Forward,
which moves the selected object one level up in the stack, and
Send
Backward, which moves the object one level down in the stack. Within
those two buttons, users can
Bring to
Front, which moves an object to the
front of the stack, or
Send to
Back, which moves an object to the back of
the stack.
Once the objects have been properly ordered, they can be further
grouped and aligned. Grouping objects allows any edits or relocations
to be done to all objects in the group rather than individually. To
group objects, press and hold the
[Ctrl]
key while selecting the
objects with the mouse. Then, click

or

Tools Arrange
Group. In the drop-down menu, select Group. Aligning
objects ensures that they are distributed to the left, center, right, top,
middle, or bottom of a slide. This is done by clicking

or
Picture Tools Arrange
Align.
Cropping an Image
In some cases, only part of the image is needed. For example, a
photograph may show a group of people, but only one person needs to
be shown. It is possible to cut away the rest of the photograph. To crop an
image is to trim the outer portion.
To crop an image in Microsoft Office, first fi select it. Then, click fi
Format Size Crop
in the ribbon. New handles are displayed on the
image. Click one of the handles and drag inward to specify the area to
keep. The portion that will be cropped is grayed out. The size of the
image will be reduced without changing the proportions by removing the
portion of the image that is grayed out. To complete the operation, click
anywhere outside of the image.
Rotating an Image
In Microsoft Offi an image can be rotated on an imaginary axis fice,
projecting out of the screen. It can be rotated in 90-degree increments
either clockwise or counterclockwise or manually rotated to any angle.
An image can also be fl ipped horizontally or vertically. fl
To rotate an image to any angle, fi rst select the image to display the fi
handles. There is a special handle displayed at the top-middle of the
image that looks like a circular arrow. Click this handle and drag to rotate
the image. Holding down the
[Shift]
key while dragging limits the rotation
to 15-degree increments.
