Heading 2
style
is applied
Be careful when applying styles. In Microsoft Word, if a character or
word is selected, the style may be applied as a character style. Many of
the built-in styles can be either paragraph or character styles. However, a
new style can be defi to be only a paragraph or a character style. This fined
helps avoid accidentally applying the wrong type of style.
Microsoft Word 2016 also contains collections of styles called style
sets. A style set is a group of styles that have been designed to work
together visually. To see the available style sets, click the
More
button in
the gallery in the
Document Formatting
group in the
Design
tab of the
ribbon. Clicking a style set name in the gallery makes all of the styles
within the set available for use in the document.
Hands-On Example 4.3.5
Formatting Text
To create professional documents, you must be able to change color, size, font, style, and
paragraph formatting. The use of styles allows consistent formatting within a document.
1. Launch Microsoft Word, and open the file fi LastNameBaltimore1 from the
Chap04
folder on
your fl ash drive, if it is not already open. fl
2. Place the insertion point anywhere in the first line at the top of the document. fi
3. Click the
Heading1
style in the gallery in the
Styles
group on the
Home
tab of the ribbon. Since
no text is highlighted, the style is applied to the entire paragraph instead of as a character style.
4. Applying what you have learned, apply the
Heading2
style as a paragraph style to the line
Local
Attractions, as shown.
