The sheet size depends on the area needed to represent the part or assembly and the size and scale of the drawing. A large part with multiple pieces may not fi t on a small sheet. Therefore, a large size will be required. Whereas, a small part made of one component may require a smaller size. A sheet format is a standard that controls the layout of information on a drawing. The following sections cover the basic elements of a drawing format. Title Block The title block is a boxed area located at the bottom-right of a drawing sheet that contains general information about a project. The purpose of the title block is to identify the project and its components. The rectangular blocks or boxes in a title block allow information to be effi ciently organized. Refer to Figure 4-2(3). Some information is specifi c about the part, while other information is general to the project. The company name, drawing number, part number, and drawing date are some of the information used in a title block. Many companies have their own title block format. The content and arrangement will vary from one company to another. Some companies will follow the current ASME standard while others will not. Although different in layout, all will contain similar data, as shown in Figure 4-3. Goodheart-Willcox Publisher A typical D-size drawing sheet format, as defined by the ASME Y14.1-2005 standards.
