engineers specialize in different types of mechanical
systems, such as heating and cooling systems, auto-
motive vehicles, and robotics.
Tool and manufacturing engineers often work
with the other engineers. A principal concern of the
mechanical engineer is the design and development
of the original or prototype model. When this model
has been thoroughly tested and has met design
requirements, the product is turned over to the tool
and manufacturing engineer to devise methods and
means required to manufacture and assemble the
item, Figure 2-16.
Metallurgical engineers are involved in the
development and testing of metals that are used in
products and manufacturing processes.

Machining technology is a technical area
with constantly developing new ideas, materi-
als, processes, and manufacturing techniques.
