iv About the Authors John Walker is the author of thirteen textbooks and has written many magazine articles. Mr. Walker did his undergraduate studies at Millersville University and has a master’s degree in Industrial Education from the University of Maryland. He taught industrial arts and vocational education for thirty-two years and was Supervisor of Industrial Education for five years. Mr. Walker also worked as a machinist for the US Air Force and as a draftsman at the US Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Dr. Kenneth Stier completed his undergraduate studies and master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin–Stout and his doctorate at Illinois State University. He taught industrial education at the secondary level for six years and taught for thirty years in the Department of Technology at Illinois State University. During his tenure at Illinois State University, Dr. Stier was Coordinator of the Engineering Technology Program and taught courses such as Introduction to Manufacturing Processes, Machine Tool Technology, Materials Technology, and Manufacturing Organization and Management. He has written numerous refereed journal articles and proceedings, as well as presented at conferences for various professional organizations, such as the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). Dr. Stier has received several awards, including the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Sargent Americanism Award and ATMAE Outstanding Industrial Technology Professor Award for Region 2.
