Success and a Positive Attitude
A positive attitude helps improve your self-esteem. When you look for
the good aspects in situations, it is also easier to fi nd the good in yourself.
People enjoy being around you when you have a positive attitude. You will
also fi nd it easier to face the tough times when they come along.
One of the best ways to develop a positive attitude is expressing your
thoughts in a positive manner. Say “I have to plan carefully today because
I have so much to do,” instead of “I’ll never be able to get everything done
today.” If your fi eld hockey team is the underdog, say “If we play hard,
remember what we worked on in practice, and get a few good breaks, we
can win.” Only pessimists say “There’s no way we can win tonight.”
Reading and Writing Activity
Studies consistently show that people with positive attitudes are more
successful both personally and professionally than those with negative attitudes.
There are many books available about exactly how positive thinking contributes
to a person’s success in life. Ask your librarian for a recommendation or conduct
an Internet search for one that appeals to you. Read it and write a short report
about how you can develop a more positive attitude.
