program and defines the responsibilities of everyone involved. The
agreement requires signatures from the student, student’s parent(s) or
guardian, school coordinator, the employer, and sometimes a school
administrator. Although the wording varies from school to school, all
training agreements serve the same general purposes. To assure the:

responsibilities and are committed to the student having a
successful work experience.
Follow the Training Plan
In addition to the training agreement, there is the training plan.
A training plan consists of a list of attitudes, skills, and knowledge
that the student plans to learn during the work experience. The plan
is usually developed by student, program coordinator, and employer.
The purpose of the plan is to help the student progress on the job
toward his or her career goals. Like training agreements, training
plans vary in form. Some are detailed plans, while others consist of a
few general statements describing what you will learn.
Another purpose of the training plan is to formally identify your
training supervisor on the job. The supervisor is responsible for the
training station and your on-the-job training. This is the person your
program coordinator contacts about your progress.
To help everyone evaluate progress, most schools require students
to keep a training record, which includes a weekly or monthly job
record of duties performed and skills learned. Each week or month, you
will write down the functions you performed as well as the attitudes,
skills, and knowledge you learned at work. Periodically, you and your
program coordinator will check your accomplishments to see if you are
progressing toward the goals listed in your training plan. During these
evaluation checks, you will learn how much you have accomplished and
what you still want to achieve. Your supervisor will also do a formal
evaluation of the tasks on the training plan during each grading period.
Go Green
Computers left on for several hours consume a lot of en-
ergy. To remedy this situation, software companies are
creating new applications for computers. These applica-
tions monitor how much energy and money can be saved when you take ad-
vantage of a computer’s sleep and shutdown schedules. Taking advantage
of these applications can save energy and extend the life of your equipment.
